Tinting Over Rear Defrosters
Tinting over rear defrosters is tricky, but it can be done. Here’s how we do it at Diversity.

People often ask us if it is possible to tint over rear defroster wires safely and effectively. The short answer is yes, it is possible! The long answer is as follows.

Defroster wires get very hot to help you quickly regain visibility in the winter months. This heat does not damage modern window films because of huge gains in the technology surrounding window film manufacturing.  There are some obstacles in the way of getting a good application, however, and we do everything we can to ensure the safety of the defroster system during installation.

Things we watch out for:

  • Always be careful not to scrape the defroster wires during cleaning to keep them intact;
  • Take extra care to make sure there are no bubbles around the wires. Since the wires are raised, they can cause a gap in your window film which would lead to bubbling. This should always be triple checked during installation;
  • If rear window films removal is necessary we need to take quite a bit of extra time to make sure the wires are not damaged during removal;

As always, it is much easier for a professional installer to handle rear window installation, and we are happy to help. You can give us a shout here if you have any questions or if you want to make an appointment. Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
